This is how you dress for success at Delta.
Delta Air Lines is reminding potential flight attendants to wear underwear.
The airline recently released a two-page memo on “appearance requirements” for prospective hires, outlining strict guidelines for how they should look during the interview process, training and throughout their careers.
The Delta outlines stipulations for grooming, hair, jewelry and clothing—and includes a specific rule about underwear.
According to the memo, prospective hires and current flight attendants must wear “appropriate undergarments” but they “must not be visible.”
This is a new change to the submission requirements that is intended to make the guidelines “more specific,” a Delta spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
“In the interest of transparency and clarity for all potential candidates, we are encouraging people to ‘dress for success’ and make a great first impression as they aspire to join the flight attendant ranks,” the spokesperson said.
The document lists a number of specific guidelines in addition to the need for underwear.
“Delta fliers spend the most time with our customers and are the face of our airline,” the document said. “The customer service experience begins the moment a flight attendant puts on their uniform.”
In the subsection on hair, it states that attendants must have “natural-looking” hair color with “no bold highlights or unnatural undertones.” If their hair is longer than the shoulders, it should be “pulled completely back and pinned away from the eyes”, and if it still extends past the middle of the back, it should be pinned up.
When it comes to care, “cleanliness and personal hygiene must always be maintained.” Eyelashes “must look natural” and “all nails must be the same color”.
“No neon, colorful colors, embellishments, glitter, hand-painted designs or airbrushed nails are allowed,” the memo explains. Additionally, tattoos must be covered, but “bandages are not suitable for covering tattoos at all times.”
Only a single nose piercing is allowed, and gold, silver, white pearl or clear/diamond-like are the only ones allowed. No other body piercings may be visible. Only two earrings per ear are allowed – but no hoops. Earrings should be no larger than a dime.
Delta says that clothing “must be professional and fit properly” – “dresses and skirts must be at or below the knee length.” Athletic shoes are not permitted, and shoes worn must be closed-toed flats, heels or backs. For those wearing the male uniform, a tie is required with collared dress shirts.
They also said that during the day of the interview, insults, chewing gum and the use of phones or headphones are not allowed.
“We will work with you to accommodate a specific way of dressing or physical appearance
observance of religious beliefs or practices, unless it causes a safety risk or other undue burden
in the company”, explains the memo.
